Community council members in Ecclefechan are delighted with the installation of a new swing, thanks to a grant from Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership’s Community Pride Fund. DGHP’s Annandale and Eskdale District Management Committee (DMC) awarded £4,515 to Hoddom and Ecclefechan Community Council to install the new swing, in an area known locally as the ‘Haggs’. Following a community engagement event, which was held in the village hall, the community council identified the need for new play equipment. While the community felt it was an ideal environment for play, the equipment was limited. They hope the new equipment will benefit the whole community. Bill Zemaititis, a member of DGHP’s DMC and also the Board of Management, said: “The project was excellent and we felt it would make a real improvement to the area.” George Callander, Vice President of Ecclefechan Community Council, said: “This award has been fantastic and it will really help with our objective of improving the Haggs for the benefit of the whole community. “I can only thank DGHP and the DMC who awarded us the money for all their help, we are extremely indebted for the award.” The Community Pride Fund was first established to encourage tenants and others to work together to improve the local communities around Dumfries and Galloway.
