DGHP supports local groups over festive season

A total of £1400 has been donated across Dumfries and Galloway, through the Wheatley Foundation. The donations will go towards the cost of providing Christmas dinners and small gifts to tenants who would benefit from a bit of Christmas cheer.

Groups receiving a donation include –

• Summerhill Community Centre in Dumfries
• Lochside is Families Together (LIFT)
• Lochside Community Association/Grub Club
• Stranraer’s Fed-Up Café
• Kate’s Kitchen, covering Annandale
• Upper Nithsdale Action for Children
• Dalbeattie and Castle Douglas Food Banks and
• Machars Churches Basics Food Bank

The Wheatley Foundation is the charitable trust operated by Scotland’s leading housing, care and property management organisation, Wheatley Group. The principal aim is to support the vulnerable and disadvantaged people Wheatley works for.

DGHP’s Managing Director, Matt Foreman, added: “We are delighted to be able to lend a helping hand to a number of groups across Dumfries and Galloway this Christmas. It’s our way of saying ‘thank you’ to some of the groups and volunteers out there making such a difference in their communities.

“We know there are many groups out there who are doing so much to help others, and we only wish we could support them all.”

Karen Wylie, coordinator at Lochside Community Association/Grub Club, said: “This is fantastic and we can’t thank DGHP and Wheatley enough for this support. We are making meals for people who will be alone on Christmas day and we are also going to be doing our takeaway food parcels as normal. This will be a great help.”

Gordon Scobie, project coordinator at the Fed Up Café in Stranraer, added: “Thank you so much to DGHP for this donation through the Wheatley Foundation. We are providing hot meals to vulnerable people across our area in the run-up to Christmas and we are also trying to give everyone a little gift or treat to take away as well. This will make such a difference to us.”

Lynne Mitchell, Wheatley Foundation Manager, added: “We are delighted to be able to spread a little financial support to groups across Dumfries and Galloway who are doing so much to help people in their local communities. We know so many of them are also our customers and we are pleased to be able to help and give a little back.”

This follows hot on the heels of the news that DGHP has doubled the number of housing officers in communities across Dumfries and Galloway – all part of commitments made to customers when DGHP joined in partnership with Wheatley Group at the end of last year.
