Another week here at DGHP is wrapping up which means it must be time for our ‘Getting to Know the Team’ feature to return. This week, we head out west again to meet Alan Berry, one of our Visiting Officers.

What does your job involve?
My main role is to keep in regular contact with residents to check on their well being, to provide general support, and assist them to access other support agencies This helps enable the resident to live more independently within their own home.To help achieve this I use assessment tools such as the outcome star, risk assessments and support plans, which are reviewed every six months.
I am responsible to the supporting people team leader for working within the frame work of Health and social care standards and ensuring all supporting resident documents are completed as per Care inspectorate requirements.
How long have you worked with DGHP?
I have worked for DGHP since April 2004.
Have you always been in this role? If not, what did you do before?
I was previously employed with Glasgow City Housing for approximately ten years before taking on my role with DGHP.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Resolving an issue for a worried resident and putting them at ease.
What’s the most challenging part of the job?
Dealing with utility companies on behalf on a resident can be very time consuming and frustrating.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Visiting residents to check on there well being and provide advice /support as required, complete planned reviews and testing integrated alarms systems are in order. I also liaise, or assist the tenant to liaise with other agencies as required for the benefit of our residents.
What three words/short phrases would you use to describe your role?
Helpful, job satisfaction, frustrating.
Recent positive feedback received from a customer about you, the service or DGHP?
Mr Berry is an honest trustworthy man/ good service is provided.
Finally, tell us your favourite hobby, out-with work?
Volunteering with Cats Protection at the weekend to rescue and re- home within my local area cats.
