Employment & Training
DGHP is committed to using the company’s Investment and Development programmes to stimulate employment and training opportunities in communities throughout Dumfries and Galloway.
In partnership with Dumfries and Galloway College (DGC), DGHP supports two training programmes each year that link in with our Development and Investment programmes. Each programme is tailored to the work that DGHP and our contractors undertake.
DGHP and DGC also offer a SCQF Level 4 Introduction to Construction Crafts programme. Based on needs of the “New Build” section of the company and tying in with our Investment programme, the training programme content varies due to the nature of the contracts we have onsite.
The courses at Dumfries and Galloway College have been designed to provide a mixture of practical skills and life skills. As well as learning trades students also get the opportunity to gain important life skills such as CV writing, employability skills and IT skills to enable them to be “work ready”. Each course takes on between 12-16 students and each course generally runs in a six month block.
Potential outcomes for trainees on our programmes range from progression onto further education (e.g. a full time course at Dumfries and Galloway College), a Modern Apprentice or even employment with one of DGHP’s contractors.
Below is a list of the Investment Programmes coming up where DGHP will be looking to include training opportunities through our Community Benefit commitments:
- Heating Replacement Programme
- Window Replacement Programme
- Roofing Replacement Programme
- Render Replacement Programme

Our Wider Community
DGHP works in partnership with local community groups and organisations to develop community projects that link in with our new build development programme. Through our neighbour renewal programme in Dumfries and Stranraer we have created bright and vibrant public open spaces that can be used by the whole community. The vison for the areas were created from local community events, workshops and school involvement.
The development at Stranraer has been completed with the public realm work ongoing at The Meadows in Dumfries. DGHP are also looking at a community public realm project that links in with our upcoming sites at Sanquhar and Lincluden.
